Established in 1995, State Development & Investment Corp., Ltd. (SDIC) is a key state-owned enterprise directly under the administration of the Central Government, one of the first batch of pilot reform units of state-owned capital investment companies. In July 2014, SDIC was chosen as one of the first batch of pilot reform enterprises of state-owned capital investment companies and in June 2022, SDIC officially became a state-owned capital investment company. SDIC has a registered capital of 33.9 billion RMB yuan (5.05 billion USD). By the end of 2021, it has 766.4 billion RMB yuan (114.21 billion USD) in total assets and approximately 50,000 employees. Its gross revenue and total profit in 2021 were 194.5 billion RMB yuan (28.98 billion USD) and 46.1 billion RMB yuan (6.87 billion USD) respectively. SDIC has been awarded A-class in the annual performance assessment conducted by SASAC for 17 consecutive years and appraised as “Excellently-Performing Enterprise” for five consecutive terms. 

Since its establishment, SDIC has been sticking to serving the national strategies, streamlining the layout of state-owned capital investment, enhancing industrial competitiveness and playing the guiding/leading role of state-owned capital investment in major industries and key areas so as to maintain and increase the value of state-owned capital. Based on years of continuously exploring for innovation and restructuring, SDIC has formed three major strategic business units in both domestic and international markets, namely: infrastructure-related industries, emerging industries and financial services & other services. Infrastructure-related industries focuses on energy industry with power generation as the core, transportation industry with port and railway as the core, and rare minerals and minerals with strategic importance with potash as the core. Emerging industries focus on advanced manufacturing, new materials, bio energy, health & elderly caring, pharmaceuticals, inspection & testing, smart technology, environmental protection, and engineering design, etc., through the synergy of controlling-share investment and fund investment. Financial services and other services focus on financial businesses such as securities, fund, trust, guarantee and futures as well as other services such as asset management, human resources, international trade, consulting and property management.

SDIC adopts a parent-subsidiary management system. Under SDIC, there are 19 wholly-owned or controlling-share subsidiaries and 179 tier-3 wholly-owned or controlling-share enterprises. Ten of the enterprises which SDIC has controlling shares are listed companies, namely: SDIC Power Holding Co., Ltd. (600886.SH), SDIC Capital Management Co., Ltd. (600061.SH), China National Complete Plant Import & Export Corporation (000151.SZ), SDIC Zhonglu Fruit Juice Co., Ltd. (600962.SH), YAPP Automotive System Co., Ltd. (603013.SH), Shenzhou High-speed Railway (000008.SZ), Xiamen Meiya Pico Information Co., Ltd. (00969. SH), Beijing Tongyizhong New Material Technology Corporation（688722.SH), Hua Lien International (Holding) Co., Ltd. (00969.HK) and Zhongxin Fruit & Juice Limited (5EG.SGX). These listed companies have made SDIC an influential brand in the Chinese capital market.
